Smith & Wesson Caves; Glock & Browning say, No Way!
Olympic says, "We will not Settle."
You probably have heard of the recent agrrement reached by Smith & Wesson and the US Government. Law suits were being pursued by 30 cities, seeking to recover the cost of
rising cost of gun violence, as well as several counties and states across the nation. The federal government, alarmed by a series of recent school shootings, had threatened to join the action unless there was a swift settlement. Well, S&W; settled, and is now off the lawsuit hook.
We on the other hand we are standing firm. "We will not settle", says Robert (Bob) Schuetz, owner and CEO of Olympic Arms.
Big manufacturers are lining up in defiance of the S&W; settlement.
[*The deal-breaker for Glock was the creation of an outside ``oversight commission,'' made
up of local, state and federal officials, who would supervise the gun manufacturer.
``The commission is an absurd concept,'' said Paul Jannuzzo, vice president and general
counsel of the Smyrna-based Glock, a unit of Glock GmbH of Austria. ``It's overly broad. It's more powerful than any regulatory agency.''
Rich Bauter, vice president of firearms marketing for Browning, also said the company
would not agree to an accord.
``I would think that everybody in the country should be absolutely outraged, at not only Smith & Wesson's steps, but also the U.S. government's steps that have intruded into the
legislative process,'' he said Tuesday.
Browning was founded by Mormon pioneers and has offices north of Salt Lake City, but is
owned by Fabrique Nationale d'Armes de Guerre of Belgium.]
Way to go Browning and Glock.
The S&W; Boycott is on.

NRA Criticizes S&W; Settlement
The National Rifle Association, embroiled in a bitter dispute over gun control with the Clinton administration, criticized the country's biggest handgun manufacturer, Smith & Wesson, on Monday for cutting a deal with the U.S. government on gun safety.
The government on Friday dropped the threat of a costly lawsuit against Smith & Wesson, a unit of Britain's Tomkins Plc, after it agreed to install child trigger locks and develop so-called smart-gun technology, which would prevent anyone but the owner of a particular gun from firing it.
``This is a futile act of craven self-interest,'' the NRA's chief lobbyist, James Jay Baker, said in a statement. ``In their rush to liquidate an inconvenient asset, executives at Tomkins plc are jeopardizing an entire U.S. industry and undermining a constitutionally determined right.''
Baker called the agreement an ``unwelcome intrusion into the legislative process'' and said Tomkins' decision was not surprising since the British company had made it ``widely
known'' that it would like to sell its U.S. subsidiary.
He said the agreement also included many provisions affecting the gun maker and
consumers, but that criminals were completely left out of the equation.

Supreme Court Rules Against FDA, for Tobacco
Federal regulations restricting the sale of tobacco products to minors,…GONE! Federal law requiring the checking of identification for the sale of tobacco products to all people under the age of 27,…GONE! Food and Drug Administration plans to prevent the sale of cigarettes from vending machines, not gonna happen.
The United States Supreme Court ruled yesterday (21 March 2000) that the FDA has no authority to regulate the sale of tobacco products without the specific approval of Congress. This ruling does not however effect the State's right to regulate the product (i.e. sales to minors), but only removes the Feds ability to ensure that the states enforce these laws.
In a close 5-4 vote, the Court ruled that the FDA does not have the power to regulate tobacco as a "drug", or as a "drug delivery device". "In this case, we believe that Congress clearly precluded the FDA from asserting jurisdiction to regulate tobacco products", says Sandra D. O'Connor who wrote the opinion for the Court.
"I am not a tobacco user, but I am a supporter of the Constitution, and strongly defend the rights of individuals to make their own choices. This is a major ruling to put rights back into the hands of the individuals and States where it belongs", commented Mr. Robert Schuetz, owner and CEO of Olympic Arms. Continuing, Mr. Schuetz said, "Someone needs to get some of these gun laws in front of the Supreme Court, and hopefully we will see most of our gun control laws go away as well."

"It's like a Slinky® gone Wild!!"
We have been getting a rash of calls lately with regards to that funny sound in the buttstock of your new AR/PCR rifle. That sound in your butt stock, it's supposed to be there. Nothing is wrong with your rifle. The only thing you can do to try and lessen the noise and vibration is to put a slight bit of gun grease (we recommend Tetra Gun Grease for this. However, any other firearms specific grease is fine) on the buffer, and a light coat of oil on the recoil/buffer spring itself.
If you'd like to do this, but are having difficulty with disassembly, please feel free to call us on our toll free line at 800-228-3471.
