Durabore® Seals the Deal

Olympic Arms was honored with a visit from a foreign military department, and their commanding general. They are shopping the market for replacement M16A2 uppers for existing M16's from "another major manufacturer" whose products they are not satisfied with. Their dissatisfaction stems from the lack of accuracy using any standard military NATO spec manufactured 5.56mm ammo, and the fact that the chrome lining in the military barrels is not holding up to their semi-rigorous training.

As is being found with many of the service M16 rifles, the chrome lining is just not holding up. That was the reason for the replacement uppers. Replace the whole uppers and sell the old ones off to make up for some of the expense, rather than just replacing the barrels and having heaps of left over parts.

Having a chrome lined bore was a determining factor with this governmental order. Once we showed them the Durabore® lined barrel, explained the product and showed them how it works, how hard it is, and how long it lasts, they all but wet their pants in anticipation!

Like the headline says, "Durabore® sealed the deal!"

As soon as the contract is signed and in our hand, we will offer you full disclosure on the order.

Standard Production Safari Pistols;
Thing of the Past.

As announced previously, the famous Safari Arms line of 1911 style pistols would no longer be standard production fare as of June 1, 2000.

Well, here we are, June 2, and the deadline is past. For all those people who have orders in place, you are locked in at the old prices. Don't worry, you will receive your orders.

As far as what happens from here on out, we have not written it in stone exactly how it will work. We do know that all orders will be handled as complete custom orders. Prices will increase by at least another $50.00, and each order will be handled on a case by case basis.

Back From Charlotte

Thanks for your patience while we were out of the shop attending the annual NRA Meetings and Exhibition in Charlotte, NC.

Before I go a step further, special thanks go out to my friends from NC, Dave Finez (even though he could not come through with tickets to the "Winston" race at Lowe's Motor Speedway) and Keith (Red) Plemons. Dave, thanks for the help and support, and Red, hang in there buddy, we all love ya.

As far as the actual NRA event goes, all I can say is WOW! This was the busiest, best attended, most up beat NRA national convention I have ever attended. The crowd was happy instead of gloomy, and the members were looking to the future with great optimism instead of, "what does Clinton and the democrats have in store for us now".

Clinton Goes Back-Door to Register Your Guns

Ever heard of the ITARs? Don't feel bad, me neither. But we had better pass this info on as fast as we can. The ITAR is an acronym for International Trafficking in Arms Regulations passed into international "law" by the United Nations (of which of course you know we are bound to follow). The ITAR calls for the full registration of all privately owned firearms beginning as early as 2001 to not just the US, but to all member nations.

You think this is a farce? As your brothers in Oh, Canada!, the home of Fish and Chips and crumpets , as well as the boys from Land Down Under if this is a farce. In all cases the little know or reported ITAR agreement is what was used for the basis of firearms registration and I many cases confiscation.

The US has already submitted the convention to the Senate in 1998, and is expecting ratification this year. With the agreement is ratified, control and enforcement become the duty of the "international community" know as the UN. This may be OK though, because if all goes as it usually has in the past, the United States is the only member nation of the UN that can afford to send troops anyway, so the foxes will be guarding the hen-house. (Joke here folks, this will NOT be OK. Just wanted to point out the fact the US carries the UN financially, and that we are the only nation that gets used en-masse as the world's police force,… or is that farce?)

Check into this and pass it on. Call your Senator and Congressmen!

Pittman-Robertson Reform Bill Clears Committee 36-0

In 1938 the Pittman-Robertson bill was passed enforcing a Federal Excise Tax on the sale of all forearms and ammunition. Because of this and 11% fee is paid to the Feds for all rifle and shotgun sales, and 10% on all ammunition and pistol sales made in the US. This bill was supported by all sportsmen as the Bill put all monies collected into a fund that was ro be used only for the benefit of the US Fish and Wildlife Service, Dept of the Interior and other agencies for the benefit of the sportsmen. The money is to be used for the saving of wildlife habitat, the study of wildlife biology and all things good.

Since 1938 more than 4 Billion dollars has been collected from the sportsmen for the benefit of their own cause, hunting, fishing, and enjoying the all of the outdoors. Most recently, the P-R Bill is raising more than $550 million dollars annually helping sportsmen save shooting ranges, add to hunter education programs and more.

But as you can guess, as with most governmental programs, it has been abused. Recently is has been made public that much of the money that the sportsmen have contributed (albeit, without choice) has been used by the USFWS as well as other groups to actually fight against the sportsmen they are supposed to be protecting.

A recent independent audit showed money from the USFWS account being forwarded to anti-hunting groups and animal rights activists. P-R FET funds have also been used for the protection of endangered species through slush fund accounts set up by the USFWS because the direct financial support of such things is in violation of the original wording of the P-R Bill.

How many millions were used against the sportsmen that paid the tax? No one really knows. But what we do know is that Congressman Don young stated that, "My bill (HR3671) will stop the abuses we found in our investigation of the wildlife and sport fish trust accounts. I will restore the trust.."

The reform bill passed committee by a unanimous 36-0 vote and is on its way into law. Protect your resources and your future to hunt and fish. Call you Congressman and Senator and demand their support of HR 3671.

More Maxhard Information

We recently had an independent lab do some testing on out max hard receivers. Their tests have confirmed what we have already known.

The standard for testing hardness of metal is called a Rockwell test. Rockwell hardness is graded on what's called a "C" scale. The higher the number the harder the material.

A normal, untreated aluminum receiver (forging) is so soft metallurgically speaking that it may not even give a reading on the C scale. If it does, it will be a 1 oe 2. After the Maxhard® treatment has been applied on an aluminum receiver it gives a reading of 20C!!

That my friends, is 20 times harder than an untreated receiver. Think about those facts before your next order.

As far as barrels go, we have not received a firm number with regards to the C scale number. But what we have been told is that because of the reaction to the process that stainless steel barrel actually change in molecular structure of the material so that the chrome becomes iron oxide. Some of the corrosion resistance will be reduced but preliminary tests are showing the barrel bores are Rockwelling at an amazing 62C! If this proves to be the case, we may be warranting these Maxhard® barrel for 2 consecutive lifetime warranties!

This process is truly amazing, and the more we test it, the better it gets.

Since our last posting, this information has piqued the interest of some interesting suitors to include some US Military Departments. As a matter of fact, Olympic Arms has signed a non-dislosure agreement with one military department, ans testing will soon be under way.
