Colt Donates to Schumer?
At the recent NRA meeting in Philly, PA, the Coalition of New Jersey Sportsmen (CNJS) distributed a flyer showing that the owner of Colt's Manufacturing, Zilkha and Company, specifically one of its principals, Donald Zilkha, has donated as least $1500 to Congressman Charles Schumer, and made additional contributions to other congressmen/women and Anti-gun PAC's. A record of Mr. Zilkha's contributions for the last 3 years can be seen here. There is also evidence of a Valerie Zilkha (same ZIP code) donating to similar parties.

If you would like to call Colt and voice your opinions, you can reach them toll free at (800) 962-2658. If you would like to call Mr. Zilkha's company, his number is (212) 935-9797. If you would like to read Colt's side of the story, go here. If you would like to check on the spending of political contributors, go to the Center for Responsive Politics.

Whoops!
We were sent this recently. I would not suggest this method of barrel cleaning, as it would appear to work too well.

Time to Draw the Line
Gun Owners of America put Representatives on notice in Washington that the cosponsorship of H.R. 1009 would be counted as a ratings vote in 1998. Rep. Helen Chenoweth (R-ID) is the chief sponsor of this very important bill repealing the Lautenberg gun ban.

The Lautenberg ban, passed in 1996, imposes a lifetime gun ban on those who have committed minor infractions in the home-- "offenses" as slight as shoving a spouse or spanking a child. "So far, only 37 Representatives have taken a stand for freedom and cosponsored H.R. 1009," GOA Executive Director Larry Pratt said. "This is one of the most important bills in the Congress, and Rep. Chenoweth deserves a lot of thanks from the American people."

FBI Wants to Keep Gun Buyers' Names
Well, the recently released FBI regulations said everything we thought they would. Yes, they want to keep the names for 18 months, and yes, they plan to impose a tax on many of the firearms purchased from gun dealers. Gun Owners of America is currently drafting its own response to the FBI regs. You can go to the GOA website here and read these regs. Contact information is included so that you can send in your own comments.
