Above the Law? From NRA Grassfire, August 1998. "NBC's Today Show on Thursday, May 28, had a segment with Matt Lauer on the issue of government storage mandates, and NRA Executive Vice-President Wayne LaPierre was featured debating notorious anti-gun congressman Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.). What intrigued us, however, is that Lauer introduced the segment holding a .357 Magnum revolver. But The Today Show's studio is in New York City, which has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the nation. Included in their restrictions is a prohibition against ANYONE taking possession (i.e. holding in their hands) of a handgun unless they have a New York City pistol permit. When we called The Today Show, they said the gun didn't belong to Matt Later, but they didn't think he had such a pistol permit. We were told that the show's producer would have to call us back regarding the question of how Mr. Later could legally take possession of a handgun in New York City without the permit. As of this writing, we have received no call back from the show." |

Anti Alert "Know thine enemy." Here is one of the more different organizations I have come across supporting gun control. It is called "Prep Com", and it "is an Internet community of NGOs and individuals dedicated to preparing for a global campaign to alleviate the problems associated with the proliferation, accumulation and misuse of small arms and light weapons." Best keep an eye on these folks... |
FBI Wants to Keep Gun Buyers' Names, Part II Senator Bob Smith (R-NH) offered an amendment last week to prohibit the levying of a tax on gun owners exercising their right to buy a gun once the National Instant Check System (NICS) goes on-line. Senator Smith's amendment also prevents the collection and retention of personal information on gun owners whose purchase has been approved. Both the tax and the federal, centralized registration of gun owners was defeated by a strong 69 to 31 vote. Contact your Representatives and urge them to support this amendment once it reaches the House! Look here to find contact info for your Reps. |
