Starr Report - Online
There are several copies on the internet of the Starr report that was submitted to Congress. However, trying to get to them is near impossible due to the heavy traffic on most sites. I have found it difficult to even access most news pages (such as ABCNews.com). The only one I have been able to reliably access is the CNN copy. Apparently nobody knows it is there yet. Very interesting and VERY in depth. Also interesting is the Clinton rebuttal, available here. Check them out!
Well... Maybe not.
Due to circumstances beyond my control, my potential hire with the County Mounties has been pushed back. At this point there is no definite date as to when I may get to go, so I’ll be with Olympic Arms for a while longer. Thanks to all of those who wished me well - and keep wishing!
CA Legislative update
While session is quickly winding down, action on gun related bills seems to be heating up.
AB 2022 (Wright), which seeks to make significant improvements to California's carry law, was approved by the Senate on a vote of 21-7.
AB 2560 (Perata), the so-called "assault weapons" ban, was amended on Monday and is still pending consideration on the Senate floor.
SB 1500 (Polanco), the ban on affordable handguns, was also amended and is awaiting action on the Assembly floor.
AB 48 (Wright), which offers immunity to law-abiding gun owners who wrongly faced prosecution for possession of the SKS, currently remains in the Senate Appropriations Committee. Please continue contacting your lawmakers -- it's more important than ever!
URGE THEM TO OPPOSE AB 2560 AND SB 1500 AND ENCOURAGE THEM TO SUPPORT AB 2022 AND AB 48! CALL NOW!
Where are the catalogs?
Our catalogs are coming late this year for various reasons. For those of you who have been contacting us for them, make your request about the middle of November and we should be able to get one to you then. Thanks for your patience!
Oregon alert
In the wake of the Thurston High School shootings, Oregon House Rep. Pete DeFazio (D, District 4) has introduced 9 separate bills "aimed at ending school violence." Of course, NONE of his measures would have had any effect on the criminal who was responsible for the shootings at Thurston High School. DeFazio is grandstanding and using the Thurston tragedy to promote himself and his reelection while hiding behind his NRA endorsement. What DeFazio really wants is an easy way to prosecute law-abiding gun owners whose guns are stolen and used in crimes.

Call Representative DeFazio and tell him that you don't want an NRA endorsement to be used as a smokescreen for someone to restrict your rights. DeFazio can be reached at (800) 944-9603 in Oregon, or (202) 225-6416 in Washington D.C. His address is:

2134 Rayburn House Office Building Washington D.C 20515

or e-mail him at: peter.defazio@mail.house.gov

It finally happens
A Leicester, MA resident was sentenced in federal court on two counts of making false statements in order to purchase firearms.
According to documents on file in U.S. District Court in Worcester, Lawrence F. Costa, age 34, falsely certified on these forms that he had never been convicted of a crime punishable by a term of imprisonment exceeding one year, when in fact he had. In addition, he certified that he was the actual purchaser of the firearms, when in fact, he was purchasing them for others. U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton sentenced COSTA to one and a half years' imprisonment to be followed by three years of supervised release. The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Diana K. Lloyd of Stern's Major Crimes Unit.
Well, now at least one person was prosecuted under standing Federal law. Here's an idea... let's do it some more! No more new gun laws, just use the ones that exist...
How to Get Shot 101
A 16-year-old boy armed with a water pistol that resembled a submachine gun was critically wounded by police who fired at him 17 times. Michael Jones was in critical condition Monday. He was hit six times in the legs by two plainclothes officers who confronted the teen Sunday while he rode his bicycle. Police said the boy refused to drop his black water gun when challenged.

The other part of this story is How to Shoot 090 (remedial).
