The information posted here is accurate and true to the best of my knowledge. The gun related bills before the legislature may or may not all be posted here. Please feel free to glance through bills on your own and let me know if you find anything that I have missed. I will try to post pertinant information as I receive it. Also, most of the information here is cut-and-paste, so please let me know if you see something that is confusing. |
Feb. 4, 1998Big News Today! Found this in the Daily Zero. Watered down version of a bill filed by Ida Ballasiotes last year. It would make parents accountable if guns are stored within reach of children. Both the NRA and the Gun Owners Action League oppose this bill. This one raises the hackles on the back of my neck, folks...It is bill number HB 3102. Scope it out and send your comment to your legislator today! |
Jan. 30, 1998Sorry no new updates until today. Everyone is out of the office and I have been busier than a head with its chicken cut off!Take a look at SSB 5228. This relates to violence in health care settings. Also take a peek at HB 2969. This bill would eliminate the existing tax on gun safes. And a very interesting letter, SJM 8002, relates to the claiming of state sovereignty under the Tenth Amendment. This was scheduled for a public hearing on 1/30/98 at 0800 in the Senate Government Operations Committee. Hope everyone could make it! |
Jan. 23, 1998Several bills have cropped up for review. These are the ones that look as if they have some hope of going somewhere. More should appear though in the next few days. They are as follows: HB1408, HB 1541, HB1716, HB2815, HB2819, SB6225, SB6328 and SB6330. Most of these are firearms related and a few are Fish & Wildlife related. Be sure to go to the bill room online and check them out! |
Jan. 22, 1998This is not gun related, but definitely internet related. The Attorney General is proposing Anti-Spam legislation in HB 2752 and SB 6434. There will be public hearing on House Bill 2752 on Wednesday, January 28, 1998, at 1:30 p.m. in Olympia. There will also be a hearing on Senate Bill 6434 on Thursday, January 29, 1998, at 1:30 p.m. in Olympia. If it is not possible for you to attend one or both of the hearings, you may wish to write or e-mail the committee members listed on each bill and/or your individual legislators regarding your position on the proposed legislation. Rosters are available online for both the Senate and the House. |
Jan. 19, 1998A bill has been introduced in the state House of Representatives that would extend the existing Gun Free School Zone from the K-12 level up through higher education (community colleges, colleges and universities).House Bill 2368 was filed by Rep. Don Carlson (R-Vancouver) and is intended to enhance higher ed campus security. The first six pages of the bill deal with sex offenders, requiring them to register with campus security should they enroll in the college. The final two pages, however, add higher ed campuses to the gun-restricted zone. Interesting how Representative Carlson has decided to lump sex offenders and law-abiding gun owners together! This is clearly an attempt to mix gun control with other "reasonable" issues: who could possibly oppose registering sex offenders on college campuses?
WHAT: House Bill 2368 "Campus security" WHERE: House Hearing Room "E" WHEN: 10-12 a.m., Tuesday, January 20th
For those who can make it to Olympia, remember, you don't have to be dressed in a suit, but you should remember that you ARE representing the gun owners of Washington. Please look presentable. Washington Administrative Code PROHIBITS firearms on the Capitol Campus, even for those with concealed carry licenses. Again, the Hotline number is 800-562-6000. |
